Breathing, an action that comes natural to us. It is something we don’t stop to think and tell ourselves to do. But what if you did? Would you think about breathing more if you knew it would take an amazing effect on your whole body?

When you breathe, you are taking oxygen in and out of your lungs, sending life to cells throughout your body.The average person only uses around 20% of their lung capacity. When you use your lungs full potential, you are changing your overall health and mood.

Proper breathing techniques can be used in so many ways. Here are a few tips on how your can improve your breathing to improve your health:

Thoughtful Breathing During Meditation
Meditation is a time where you can transform your body. Meditation is where your put your body into a relaxing state, forget about the real world, and focus on you and your body. Controlled breathing during meditation can be used in many different techniques. Counting equal seconds of breathing and controlling breathing from your abdominal are just a few. Controlling your breathing keeps your mind functioning while allowing your body to relax. Studies have shown relaxation practices can lower your blood pressure, boost your immune system, and leave you feeling more energized.


Controlled Breathing Paired With Yoga
Yoga, which has similar benefits to meditation, can also improve your flexibility and strength. Different yoga techniques actually require you to focus on your breathing. When you control your breathing you feel more relaxed. Yoga practices also have you stretching your muscles, which overtime will increase your flexibility. Moving and using your muscles, will also have you improving your muscle tone. Combining controlling your breathing and the muscle movements, you improve your overall mental and physical well being.

Beneficial Breathing While Exercising
When your body is moving, you require more oxygen. The proper breathing during a workout will improve the quality of the workout, boost energy levels, improve posture and even help burn more fat. The breathing technique will be different for each activity. When you are running, you should be breathing in and out of your mouth, and focusing on breathing from your abdomen. If you are weight lifting, you should focus your breaths on when your do the lifting. When your focus on your breathing, you should notice an overall improvement on your performance.

Smooth Breathing For Better Sleep
Performing a breathing technique might be the answer to fixing your sleepless nights. Because you are focusing on your breathing, you will feel more relaxed. The technique for falling asleep in known as the the 4-7-8 exercise. You begin by exhaling all the air from your lungs. Then breathe in through your nose for four seconds, hold your breath for seven, and breathe out through your mouth for eight seconds. That counts as one cycle. It should be repeated three more times for a total of four. Once you have mastered this technique, you should be able to fall asleep in 60 seconds. Don’t believe us? Try it tonight.
